Comments:This is one of several series included in alkali scrub or sink vegetation. These categories are better considered a collection of series. Whether a given stand is classed as a member of the Alkali sacaton series, Bush seepweed series, Iodine bush series, or Greasewood series depends on which species dominates. Stands of these series can form mosaic in response to microtopograhy.
Plot based descriptions:Bradley (1970) defines two associations in Death Valley National Park MojD; Odion al. (1992) one association at Fish Slough in Inyo Co. TraSN [Some plots in Odion et al. associations have low values of iodine bush; these associations might be considered as belonging to the Alkali sacaton series or Saltgrass series]; McHargue (1973) describes stands in Coachella Valley in Riverside Co. ColD.
Series Association:Bradley (1970): Saltgrass-iodine bush association [as Eastern salt flat], Bush seepweed-Iodine bush association [as Western salt flat]. Odion et al. (1992): Alkali sacaton-iodine bush association [as Sporobolus-Allenrolfea association]. McHargue (1973): Iodine bush association [as Level-wet sites].
