Comments:Coulter pine dominates in this series; it is an important species in the Coulter pine-canyon live oak series where it shares dominance with canyon live oak. In the Coulter pine series the canopy is one-tiered. In the Coulter pine-canyon live oak series he canopy is two-tiered. In addition, Coulter pine may be present in the Canyon live oak series as a minor component. Keeler-Wolf (1991a) qualitatively describes stands at Big Pine Mountain proposed RNA in Santa Barbara Co., Millard Canyon RNA in Riverside Co. i. m-TraR.
Plot based descriptions:Burke (1992a) reports cover for a stand at Fishman's Camp candidate RNA in San Bernardino Co. i. m-TraR; Keeler-Wolf (1986d, 1989m) in Keeler-Wolf (1990e) describes a Coulter pine-black oak woodland at Cahuilla Mountain RNA in Riverside Co. m-PenR.
