Comments:Pinyon-juniper woodlands are better considered a collection of series. California juniper occurs in many stands and series. If a pinyon or Joshua tree occurs then the dominance rule applies to assign the stand [ see Joshua tree series, Parry pinyon series, Singleleaf pinyon series]. California juniper is a component of Scalebroom stands in i-SoCo. Stands in w. MojD are restricted due to systematic removal for agriculture. Keeler-Wolf (1990c) qualitatively describes stands on limestone at Long Canyon candidate RNA in Kern Co. m-SN.
Plot based descriptions:Boyd (1983) describes two stands in Gavilan Hills in Riverside Co. i. m-TraR; Phillips et a (1980) two stands in Joshua Tree National Monument in San Bernardino Co. MojD; Spolsky (1979) defines a Desert transition chaparral association in Anza Borrego State Park in San Diego Co. ColD.
