Upland information: Uplands:valleys, slopes gentle to steep. Soils shallow, infertile, moderately to excessively-drained with extensive rock fragments. Sur-face may be covered with stones and rock outcrops.

Comments:Stands of this series are commonly des-cribed as blue oak woodlands, but forest and savanna stands also qualify. Alvord oak stands are included in this series. Keeler-Wolf (1990e) qualitatively describes blue oak-dominated stands at Jawbone Ridge in Tuo umne Co. f-SN.
Plot based descriptions:Allen et al. (1989, 1991) define 11 subseries in Cis-CA based on tree and shrub data. They are called associations here. Borchert et al. (1993a) define 13 associations in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Co., Keele r-Wolf (1989a) describes stands at Wagon Caves candidate RNA in Monterey Co.
