Comments:This series is often considered part of the coastal scrub, which is better thought of as a collection of series. This approach allows stands of comparable composition to be considered regardless of geographic location. Keeler-Wolf (1990e) qualitatively describes white sage stands as River sage scrub at Millard Canyon RNA in Riverside Co. m-TraR; as Salvia herbland at Cahuilla Mountain RNA, King Creek RNA in River Co. m-PenR. If stands have white sage equally important with California buckwheat, they are members of the California buckwheat-white sage series.
Plot based descriptions:DeSimone & Burk (1992) define a White sage-California sagebrush association [as Group 2], Hanes et al. (1989) report sites in two drainages [Elwanda Canyon, upper Santa Ana River] as dominated by white sage, in Orange Co. o-SoCo.
