Comments:Throughout its range, wedgeleaf ceanothus may occur as scattered shrubs in a forest understory or the sole or dominant shrub in shrublands. This series is found in several elevation zones in all regions. Self-perpetuating stands are unusual; instead, most stands are established after disturbance and are transitional to various kinds of forest and chaparral. The Jepson Manual regognizes three varieties of Ceanothus cuneatus. Wedgeleaf ceanothus is C.c. var. c., coast ceanothus is C. c. var. rigidus. The last two varieties are found in the Woollyleaf manzanita series. Keeler-Wolf (1990e) qualitatively describes wedgeleaf ceanothus stands at Hale Ridge canidate RNA in Lake Co. o-NorCo; Keeler-Wolf (1990d) at Indian Creek canidate RNA in Tehama Co. f-CasR; Keeler-Wolf (1990e) at Big Grizzly Mountain RNA in Mariposa Co. m-SN.
