Wetland information:Wetlands:habitats intermittently flooded, saturated. Water chemistry: fresh. Arroyo margins, ditches; washes, watercourses. Cowardin class: Temporarily flooded palustrine shrub-scrub wetland. The national list of wetland plants (Reed 1988) lists tamarisks as a ACW.

Comments:Five introduced species of tamarisk are known to grow in CA; Tamarix parviflora and T. ramosissima are the most common species ( The Jepson Manual ). Tamarisk supplants native plants and reduces water for wildlife. Active programs to remove tamarisk are ongoing in the state.
