Wetland information:Wetlands:habitat irregularly flooded, permanently saturated with shallow water table. Water chemistry: haline, saline. Estuaries: banks, berms, and margins of bays, deltas, sandbars. Valley bottoms, lower portions of alluvial slopes. Cowardin classes: Estuarine ntertidal persistent emergent haline wetland, Palustrine persistent emergent saline wetland. The national list of wetland plants (Reed 1988) lists saltgrass as a FAC, FAC*.

Comments:Many regional descriptions include this series in an alkali meadows category. This series is also associated with coastal saltmarshes and grasslands [ see Alkali sacaton series, Ashy ryegrass series, Creeping ryegrass series, Spikerush series].

(1979) one association in Contra Costa, Solano Cos. d-CenV; Boyd (1983) describes three stands in Gavilan Hills in Riverside Co. i. m-TraR; Bradley (1970) defines two associations in Death Valley National Park in Inyo Co. MojD; Ferren & Davis (1991) one association, Odion et al. (1992) two associations at Fish Slough TraSN.
