Comments:Many willow stands are composed of a single species and easily asigned to a series using the dominance rule. If no dominant willow is present at low elevations, then place the stands in the Mixed willow series. Montane and subalpine willow stands are placed in seperate classes since other willow species are restricted to those elevations [see Montane wetland shrub habitat, Subalpine wetland shrub habitat]. Stands of this series have similair environmental conditions as alder, cottonwood, and other willow series [see Black cottonwood series, Black willow series, Freemont cottonwood series, Hooker willow series, Pacific willow series, Red alder series, Red willow series, Sitka willow series, White alder series]. This treatment follows the Jepson Manual by including Salix exigua. Narrowleaf willow thickets occur along margins of streams and rivers that are continually disturbed by point-bar deposition.
