Comments:The composition of these stands varies regionally. Foxtail pine mixes with Shasta fir, in some cases with whitebark pine, in su-KlaR. Whitebark pine and lodgepole pine mix in su-CasR; mountain hemlock and whitebark pine in su-SN. These stands differ from other subalpine series in that no tree species dominates stands of this series. Instead two or three trees are similarly important [ see Foxtail pine series, Lodgepole pine series, Red fir series, Western white pine series, Whitebark pine series].
Plot based descriptions:Keeler-Wolf (1987a) in Keeler-Wolf (1990e) describes foxtail pine, mountain hemlock, whitebark pine stands at Crater Creek candidate RNA, Keeler-Wolf (1984b, 1989f), Sawyer & Thornburgh (1971) in Keeler-Wolf (1990e) at Sugar Creek candidate RNA in Siski ou Co. su-KlaR.
