Comments:Often considered part of the coastal prairie, where introduced grasses, especially tall-oatgrass, velvet grass and vernal grass, dominate extensive areas. Areas dominated by an introduced grass in other regions of the state are included in this definiti n as well.
Plot based descriptions:Heady et al. (1977b) and Foin & Hektner (1977) define associations in Sonoma Co., Grenier (1989), Saenz & Sawyer (1986) each one association in Redwood National Park, Humboldt Co. o-NorCo; Jimerson (1993) four associations in Six Rivers National Forest o-NorCo, l-KlaR. NDDB has plot data on file for velvet grass-dominated stands in Sonoma Co. o-NorCo. Brown (1993) presents results of 40 transects, following the CNPS protocol. The purpose was to establish ring sites at Sonoma Coast State Beaches in Sonoma Co. o-NorCo. The most common species to dominate sites was velvet grass.
Series Association:par Hektner & Foin (1977): Hairy oatgrass-vernal grass association. Grenier (1989): Foothill sedge - tall-oatgrass association. Heady et al.
