Comments:Often considered part of the coastal prairie, this series extends from coastal terraces to inland bald hills where it can associate with other series on a fine scale [ see California oatgrass series, Pacific reedgrass series, Tufted hairgrass series]. It often mixes with tree series at a coarser scale [ see Douglas-fir - tanoak series, Oregon white oak series, Redwood series]. The series occurs in Nor-CA away from the coast with different associates. Idaho fescue is common on ultramafic-derived soils in KlaR, and extensive on basalt-derived soils in ModP.
Plot based descriptions:Jimerson (1993) defines an Idaho fescue/yarrow association in Six Rivers National Forest l-KlaR. NDDB has plot data on file for stands in Modoc Co. su-WarR, Sheldon Antelope Refuge
