Reference:Douglas-fir, tanoak ranges in CA (Griffin & Critchfield 1972); silvics (Hermann & Lavender 1990), (Tappeiner et al. 1990). Barbour (1988), Barrows (1984), Bingham & Sawyer (1991, 1993), Franklin et al. (1981), McDonald et al. Comments:Douglas-fir and tanoak are important components of several series. In addition, the literature applies the terms "Douglas-fir forest" and "mixed evergreen forest" to stands of varying species composition.
Plot based descriptions:Mize (1973) defines three associations in w. Marble Mountain Wilderness, Keeler-Wolf (1985a, 1989c) in Keeler-Wolf (1990e) one association at Bridge Creek candidate RNA in Siskiyou Co., Keeler-Wolf (1987b) in Keeler-Wolf (1990e) describe stands at Pea rch Creek, Simpson (1980) defines one association in s. Siskiyou Mountains in Humboldt Co., Thornburgh (1987) in Keeler-Wolf (1990e) defines two associations at Hennessy Ridge in Trinity Co., Jimerson (1993, 1994) defines 35 associations in l-KlaR. His n mes have been changed to include the important Doug-las-fir component in his forests. In this way, Douglas-fir - tanoak stands will not be confused with Tanoak series associations lacking the important Douglas-fir component. Gudmunds & Barbour (1987) des ribe stands along Middle Yuba River m-SN. See Atzet & Wheeler (1979) for sw. OR associations.
