Comments:This series is often considered part of the creosote bush scrub, which is better thought of as a collection of series. In this series creosote bush dominates; white bursage may be present, but not as an important shrub [ see Creosote bush-white bursage series]. Big galleta may be present, but is not important in the ground layer [ see Big galleta series]. Turner (1982a) presents qualitative descriptions of several areas in CA which describe vegetation variation in the series.
Plot based descriptions:Davidson & Fox (1974) describe off-road-vehicle effects in Kern Co., McHargue (1973) stands on bajadas, hillsides, and dunelands in Coachella Valley in Riverside Co., Phillips & MacMahon (1981) in MacMahon (1988) report shrub density and cover, Randell 1972) describes stands [as Group III] in Saline Valley in Inyo Co., Vasek & Barbour (1977) stands, Minnich et al. (1993) define one association at Marine Corps Air-ground Combat Center in San Bernardino Co. MojD.; Spolsky (1979) defines four associations at Anza Borrego State Park in San Diego Co. ColD.
Series Association:Minnich et al. (1993): Creosote bush with disturbance association. Spolsky (1979): Sonoran dune scrub association, High diversity creosote scrub association, Creosote bush-brittlebush association, Saltbush-creosote bush association.
