Wetland information:Wetlands:habitat permanently flooded, intermittently exposed. Water chemistry: fresh. Ditches; lakes; ponds; slow streams. Cowardin classes: Lacustrine littoral aquatic bed wetland, Palustrine aquatic bed wetland, Riverine aquatic bed wetland. The national list f wetland plants (Reed 1988) lists bur-reeds as a OBL.

Comments:Five species of bur-reed grow in California. Narrowleaf bur-reed is the most conspicuous one, often present as monospecific stands in mountain lakes. The ecological relationships between narrowl eaf bur-reed and other bur-reed species needs clarification. Currently, all bur-reeds are placed in this series. Some species are emergent, others have floating leaves. Small bur-reed (a CNPS List 4 plant) is in m-SN.
