Comments:This series occurs in alkali, brackish, or freshwater marshes. Barnhart et al. (1992) describe Humboldt Bay marshes in Humboldt Co. o-NorCo; MacDonald (1977) the San Francisco Bay complex, Ferren (1989) the Santa Barbara area marshes o-CenCo; MacDonald (1977) South Coast marshes o-SoCo. The Bulrush series and Ca ttail series occur in similar habitats, but stands of Bulrush-cattail series lack a dominant species [ see Bulrush series, Cattail series].
Plot based descriptions:Cuneo (1987) describes San Francisco and San Pablo bays in NorCo; Atwater et al. (1979) define one association in Contra Costa, Solano Cos. d-CenV; Odion et al. (1992) one association at Fish Slough in TraSN.
Series Association:Atwater et al. (1979): Bulrush-cattail association. Odion et al. (1992): Common tule-southern cattail association [as Scirpus-Typha association].
