Upland information: Uplands:all topographic locations. Soils commonly rocky. The national list of wetland plants (Reed 1988) lists bluebunch wheat-grass as a FACU*.

Comments:This series is more common outside California. Stands often include non-native, annual species mixed with the perennial grasses and herbs. Cheatgrass and medusa-head are common. In the ecological literature bluebunch wheatgrass is referred to as Agropyron spicatum . The Jepson Manual places bluebunch wheatgrass in the genus Pseudoroegneria . Conservative treatments place it in the genus Elymus .
