Comments:Willow stands may or may not be dominated by a single species. If no dominant willow is present at low elevations, then place the stand in the Mixed willow series. Montane and subalpine willow stands are placed in separate classes since different willow species are restricted to those elevations [ see Montane wetland shrub habitat, Subalpine wetland shrub habitat]. Stands of the Arroyo willow series have environmental conditions similar to alder, cottonwood, and other willow series [ see Black cottonwood series, Black willow series, Fremont cottonwood series, Hooker willow series, Pacific willow series, Red alder series, Red willow series, Sitka willow series, White alder series].
Plot based descriptions:Zembal (1989) reports tree density and cover along Santa Margarita and Santa Ana Rivers in Orange Co. o-SoCo; NDDB has data from Santa Catalina Island ChaI; White (1994a) defines a Arroyo willow/mugwort association at Cleghorn Canyon candidate RNA in Sa Bernardino Co. i. m-TraR; Stromberg & Patten (1992) report willow density for stands in TraSN.
